Writing beyond the research
Research is one way of paying attention; this is where the other ways will live. Notes collects writing about institutions, freedom, animals, travel, rhythm, and the details of ordinary life that resist easy classification.
Essays are being prepared and will be published here as they are finished — no dates promised. The categories below describe the territory.
Categories
- Society & Freedom
- Institutions, rules, and incentives — how freedom is practiced, constrained, or quietly eroded in the arrangements people live inside.
- Animals & Everyday Life
- Close observation of animals and the ordinary scenes around them; what routine behavior reveals when you watch it long enough.
- Places & Distance
- Cities, landscapes, and travel — and what distance, arrival, and departure do to attention.
- Rhythm
- The tempo of work, seasons, streets, and habits; patterns that repeat and what they carry.
- Poems & Fragments
- Short pieces and unfinished lines that do not need to become essays.
